Latina Journalists to Watch in 2019

You know I love a good roundup, so I decided to share with you my list of Latina journalists who are doing wonderful work in a field that is, and has been, going through tremendous transformation in the digital age.

I also reached out to my network of Latina makers and shakers to see who they are reading.

Rosy Cordero

Rosy Cordero is an entertainment writer and reporter based in Los Angeles. She has nearly 10 years experience under her belt and has been published in Variety Magazine, The Hollywood Reporter, Deadline, Latina Magazine, NY Daily News, Teen Vogue and more. Cordero is a red carpet ace that has interviewed top talent including Ben Affleck, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Jimmy Smits, Geena Davis, Sofia Vergara, Halle Balle, amongst others.

Cordero’s stories focus on representation in Hollywood with a focus on Latinx talent.

Christian Portilla

Christian Portilla covers community, culture, and lifestyle in Miami for the Miami New Times. Her passion for the city and its people is quite evident in her work.

She also hosts Meet Them Mondays, a podcast where listeners can enjoy stories of community, culture and lifestyle in Miami.

Pilar Marrero

Pilar Marrero is a journalist and author with long experience in covering social and political issues of the Latino community in the United States. She is one of the foremost experts on immigration politics in the US media world and has covered the issue extensively over her years as a reporter.

Her first book, Killing the American Dream, chronicles the last 25 years of immigration policy mishaps in the United States and their consequences for the country´s economic future.

As a reporter living in Los Angeles, the epicenter of immigration and diversity in the U.S. West coast, she has covered government at all levels, including all the Presidential Races in the United States since 1992, from a multicultural point of view.

She has been published in Medium, HuffPost, The San Diego Union-Tribune, La Opinión, KCET-TV (Burbank, CA), Latino Rebels, El Diario La Prensa, Link TV, Latino USA, Angelus News and more

Yvette Montoya

Yvette is an L.A. native, a curly girl advocate and a first generation Latina working toward female empowerment through her writing and her artwork. She’s passionate about art, politics, tech, intersectional women’s issues and smacking down haters on Instagram. When she’s not typing away in front of a computer screen you’ll find her re-watching Atlanta & Bob’s Burgers, dancing to reggaeton and playing with her three foster bunnies: Basil, Alfalfa & Art Vandelay.
